01 — The engine
The anatomy of a propaganda engine
Most of what gets called a content strategy is a campaign: a burst of output with a start and an end. An engine is standing apparatus. It has four stages, and knowing how each one fails is more useful than knowing how each one works.
01
Position
A claim about the world that is specific enough to be wrong. Positioning that no competitor would ever contradict is not positioning, it is description.
How it fails: Fails as consensus. If every firm in the category would sign the same sentence, the market has no reason to store your name against it.
02
Proof
The evidence that earns the claim: results, working systems, defensible reasoning, and the specific cases where the approach did and did not hold.
How it fails: Fails as assertion. A claim repeated without proof does not become true through frequency, it becomes noise the audience learns to filter.
03
Cadence
Distribution on a schedule the audience can predict, across surfaces they already use. Recognition is a function of repetition over time, not of any single piece.
How it fails: Fails as bursts. A quarter of output followed by silence resets the accumulation and pays the introduction cost over again.
04
Compounding
Each cycle should lower the cost of the next: a larger owned audience, more proof in the bank, and a position the market already understands before you speak.
How it fails: Fails as rented reach. Output that lives only on platforms you do not own leaves no asset behind when the distribution terms change.
The stages are sequential and unforgiving in order. Cadence without proof is noise. Proof without position is a portfolio nobody asked to see.
The common failure is to start at stage three. Cadence is the visible part, the part that looks like work, and the part a team can be assigned on Monday. So output begins before there is a position worth repeating or evidence that earns it, and the engine runs for a year producing volume that accumulates nothing.
Running the stages in order is slower to start and the only version that compounds. A single piece published against a sharp position with real proof behind it does more for recognition than a quarter of competent, forgettable output.
